Getting Started
What is PokeLegacy? A free, fan-made Pokemon browser game — catch, battle, trade, and work your way through Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh, entirely in the browser.
Is it free to play? Yes. Everything needed to play is free; the Store only sells optional extras (Gold bundles, VIP) for players who want to support the project or speed things up.
Do I need to download anything? No — it runs in any modern browser. You can optionally install it as an app from your browser for a more native feel; see "Playing on Mobile" below.
Regions & Progression
How do I unlock new regions? By raising your Trainer Level — every region is reachable from the moment you create your account, it just takes a certain Trainer Level to actually enter. Check your Map page to see what's next.
Trainer Level vs. a Pokemon's level — what's the difference? Trainer Level is your own account-wide rank, earned from battling, exploring, and other activities; it gates region access and other features. Each individual Pokemon also levels up on its own from battling, up to level 100.
What is Prestige? Once a Pokemon reaches level 100, you can Prestige it: it resets to level 1 in exchange for a permanent Prestige Star, improved IVs, and a random passive Utility trait. Check any level-100 Pokemon's own page for details.
How do I trade with another player? Send a trade request from their profile, or from the Trades page — both sides confirm before anything actually changes hands.
What's the Marketplace? A player-to-player shop for items, Pokemon, and Gold — list something for a fixed price or run an auction, or browse the rotating system stock.
Can I battle other players directly? Yes — challenge another trainer from their profile for a friendly PvP spar (no reward/XP), or check the PvP lobby for open challenges.
Silver, Gold & VIP
What's the difference between Silver and Gold? Silver is the everyday currency, earned constantly through battling, working, and exploring. Gold is the premium currency, used for rarer items and Master Balls.
How do I get Gold without paying? Achievements, VIP's daily bonus, and watching a rewarded ad on the Shop page all grant a little Gold for free.
What is VIP, and do I need it? An optional paid status with perks like instant healing, a Shop discount, extra Bag space, and a free daily Radar use. Nothing about VIP is required to play or progress — see the VIP page for the full perk list.
Account & Support
Is PokeLegacy affiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak, or The Pokemon Company? No. It's an independent, non-commercial fan project — see About for the full disclaimer.
Can I have more than one account? No — one account per player. See Rules & Guidelines for details.
I'm locked out of my account — what do I do? Reach out through Support with as much detail as you can (username, roughly when you last got in) and it'll get sorted out.
How do I report a bug or another player? Through Support — every ticket gets read. Please don't exploit a bug for personal gain; report it instead.
Playing on Mobile
Is there an app to download? No app-store download — but the site is an installable Progressive Web App. Look for the "Install App!" button (site footer, or your browser's own install prompt) to add it to your home screen with an app-like icon and window.
Does it work well on a phone? Yes, the whole site is responsive and fully playable on mobile, tablet, or desktop.
